Awesome Week for America, Bad Week for Ted Cruz

Obama“This week, after more than fifty votes in Congress to repeal or weaken this law; after a Presidential election based in part on preserving or repealing this law; after multiple challenges to this law before the Supreme Court, we can now say this for certain: the Affordable Care Act still stands, it is working, and it is here to stay.”President Obama

Anthony Kennedy“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right. The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit is reversed. It is so ordered.” -Justice Anthony Kennedy

Ted Cruz 2“This week, we have twice seen Supreme Court justices violating their judicial oaths. Yesterday, the justices rewrote Obamacare, yet again, in order to force this failed law on the American people. Today, the Court doubled down with a 5–4 opinion that undermines not just the definition of marriage, but the very foundations of our representative form of government. Both decisions were judicial activism, plain and simple. Both were lawless.”Sen. Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz

Yep, let the Supreme Court finally make decisions that are Constitutional and positively impacts the lives of millions of American citizens, and Senator Rafael Edward “Ted” Cruz throws a hissy-fit because the rulings did not go his way.

After all, who do the Supreme Court Justices think they are, constitutional experts!

I’m sure Cruz and his Republican cronies will waste the next two years trying to overturn these Supreme Court decisions instead of doing something useful.

President Obama’s Accomplishments are Damn Impressive

This is What a Successful Presidency Looks LikeLooking back through some of my notes and ideas for future blogs I came across this from a couple of months ago. I had the same thought as I did when I saved it: That’s damn impressive!

We all tend to rate the President on the latest problems or decisions, or lack of. I can remember getting annual reviews at work and it being obvious that my boss could only rate me, and discuss, my most recent performance, accomplishments, or short-comings in some cases. It was up to me to remind him of what happened throughout the whole year and not just the last few months. This was usually followed by the typical “I didn’t realize that was during the past year” or something similar.

When musicians, artists, inventors, scientists, etc. receive recognition and acclaim, it is typically based on their overall “body of work”. They didn’t have a hit song, book, product or discovery every time.

Looking at the graph above on President Obama’s “body of work” and accomplishments while in office, considering he has to fight a “do nothing” Congress that is intent on making him a failure, this is damn impressive. And this doesn’t include the impact of ObamaCare.

Like him or not, he is due kudos for a job well done.

Don’t Worry…The Adults are in Charge Again

Adults in Charge AgainNo sir, you don’t have to worry anymore because the adults are now in charge. We know what you want. We know what is good for the country.

  • We’ll protect you from all those liberal, socialist-thinking ideas
  • We’ll repeal ObamaCare – we won’t force affordable insurance and health care on you
  • We’ll reform Social Security – you should be able to save for retirement on your own
  • We’ll reform Medicare – why should we have to pay for health care for all those old people
  • We’ll stop all this ridiculous climate change activity – it’s our world and it will last forever
  • We’ll stop all these alternative energy initiatives – OIL is all we need (drill baby drill)
  • We’ll remove all those pesky safety regulations that are holding back our big businesses
  • We’ll stop all this talk about immigration reform – we just need to get rid of all these foreigners
  • We’ll stop all this minimum-wage discussion – our big businesses need cheap labor to stay profitable

This is just for starters. We will continue to dismantle all those other bad things the Democrats did while they were in charge. If the President tries to stop us from doing our job, we will teach him a lesson and ”shut down the government.”

We know this is what you want because you voted us back in power.

We know what’s good for the country because our financial supporters told us.

So, don’t worry, we are going to take care of you.

ObamaCare Sign-Ups

Obamacare signupsObamaCare Health Care Reform is structured to be implemented over a period of time, beginning in 2010. Many of the protections, reforms and taxes are already enacted. Some of the biggest changes goes into effect in 2014:

  • Insurance purchased on the health insurance exchange goes into effect.
  • The Individual Mandate: There is a tax starting at 1% of your income or $95 and raising to 2.5% of your income or $685 by 2016 for individuals. For a family, it’s capped at $285 in 2014 and rises to $2,085 by 2016. It cannot exceed these amounts. This helps pay for emergency and future coverage you may need. The tax penalty is paid on your tax returns. This is a “tax” not a “mandate”.
  • Tax credits, tax breaks and help with up-front costs are available to those struggling to pay for insurance.
  • You can no longer be denied for pre-existing conditions.
  • The ACA takes measures to prevent all types of discrimination in regards to your right to health care. Factors such as pre-existing conditions, health status, claims history, duration of coverage, gender, occupation, and small employer size and industry can no longer be used by insurance companies to increase health insurance premiums.
  • No Annual dollar limits on coverage.
  • The only factors that can affect premiums of new insurance plans starting in 2014 are your income, age, tobacco use, family size, geography and the type of plan you buy.  This applies to all plans sold through your State’s health insurance marketplace.
  • All new plans sold must include Ten Essential Health Benefits.
  • Congress must shop on the health insurance exchanges.
  • Pharmaceutical companies are subject to a new tax.
  • ObamaCare Medicaid Expansion expands coverage to 15.9 million low-income individuals (The supreme court ruling has given states the opportunity to opt-out of Medicaid expansion).
  • Employers will be able to shop on the health insurance exchanges for employee insurance.
  • There is a new tax on medical devices.
  • Insurance companies are taxed based on their market share.
  • Small Business Employers can shop for employee coverage on the health insurance exchange.
