Are You Smarter Than Our Senators, Cont’d

With the election year madness upon us, and watching how some candidate’s followers are willing to elect anyone that can make the most absurd statements and provide no solutions for any of our reality-based problems, I just have to re-post my post from this day one year ago. Nothing has changed…

When I was younger, and quite comfortable in my complacency, I had this utterly absurd notion that our government consisted of an august body of intellects and sages that worked diligently at the task of making our country work for the betterment of all.

How completely and utterly ignorant I was. Completely ignorant. Ignorant (and trusting) to the point of stupidity. Whew !

I realize now that my image of Washington could not have been further from that fantasy than it was possible to have been.

Our government, I now see with clarity, consists of a group of racist, bumbling, buffoons, who’s number one goal is to pander to those that hold the purse strings, and “The People” be damned. Especially the little people.

It’s astonishing that given a choice, there are people, and not just politicians, that would choose ignorance over enlightenment. And not just choose ignorance, but to be proud of the fact that they’re ignorant.

I mean ignorance is simply the lack of knowledge, and I can forgive a person for that, but to be willfully ignorant enters another realm altogether, and I call that stupidity. And I do not have a tolerance for stupidity.

As I was searching through my blog notes file, I found this short article above that I had saved. I don’t know when it was actually written but I saved it back in 2011. As I read it again I just had to laugh. This “Some Dude in AK” said it perfectly. I believe a majority of the American people are like this guy was initially in his thoughts about our government, before he had his epiphany.

Conservatives Want the Government to “Stop Giving Poor People Free Stuff”

Conservatives continue to spout their mantra about the Government subsidizing poor people by giving them “free stuff”. Obviously they don’t think the same about the Government subsidizing those “that don’t need it” by giving them “free stuff”.

How Do Multi-Billion Dollar Corporations Avoid Paying Taxes

The following 3 minute video will show you how just 4 of these multi-billion dollar companies get way with not paying their “fair share” of taxes.  And in some cases, they get tax refunds.

Should we be upset with these corporations? Of course!  But we should be outraged at our government for letting them get away with it.

According to Wikipedia:

  • Tax evasion is the illegal evasion of taxes by individuals, corporations and trusts.
  • Tax avoidance is the legal use of tax laws to reduce one’s tax burden.
  • Both tax evasion and avoidance can be viewed as forms of Tax Non-Compliance, as they describe a range of activities that intend to subvert a state’s tax system.
  • When taxpayers try to find loopholes with the intention to pay less tax, even if technically legal, their actions may be against the spirit of the law and in this sense considered non-compliant.

Over $2 trillion in U.S. corporate profits are parked offshore, to avoid paying taxes in the U.S., while law-abiding, taxpaying citizens work hard to pay their “fair share.” What’s the justice in this?

Former Labor Secretary Robert Reich said it best when he said that lost tax revenue has to be made up by you and me and every other taxpayer who can’t afford high-flying attorneys and accountants to shift our income into places with low taxes.”

Instead of paying taxes, they pay lawyers and lobbyists to help them get even more and better tax breaks. If the government starts talking about raising the corporate tax rates, they only complain about how the U.S. has the highest tax rate and then threaten to move their business overseas where the tax rates are more favorable.

How can they be more favorable than zero percent (0%).  I say okay, let them move overseas, but they should be banned from doing business in the U.S. and excluded from participating in any government contracts.

To these multi-billion dollar companies it’s all about profits, and paying less taxes helps them achieve higher profits.

To everyone else it’s all about GREED.

Former Republican and a Military Veteran Speaks Out Against the GOP

A former Republican finally saw the obstructionist GOP for what they really are – and calls them out for it…

Re-Posted from Democratic Underground | by Babylonsister

“I am a former Republican and a military veteran.”

<< snip >>

They failed in keeping Obama limited to one term but, even with this loss, the GOP has kept their second promise. They have done absolutely NOTHING to help the struggling American economy nor it’s struggling people in well over six and a half years and we pay them millions in salary and benefits for their inadequacy and lack of work product! The rest of us would have been fired long ago if we produced absolutely zero for those who pay our salaries! It is just remarkable what this president has accomplished, what with the obsessive obstacles purposefully thrown in his path. Imagine what could have been accomplished if those elected, on the Right, actually worked with this president!

Americans Have Given Up Without a Fight

I continue to be amazed at how Americans have become so apathetic with our political process and democracy in general. America was founded on a constitution that guarantees basic civil/human rights, religious liberty, political rights, independent courts of law, and fair and free elections. A true Government of the people, by the people, for the people. A democracy in which the ultimate power rests with the people and administered by people that are elected to represent them in the day-to-day business of the people’s government.

Our two political parties have always been opponents, but ultimately they would do what was best for the country and the people they represent. Now they are enemies, full of hatred for each other, with their own interests put ahead of the people’s needs. Their loyalty and focus has transitioned from the needs of the people to the demands of their overlords – their financiers.

In the past, those politicians that were “bought and paid for” by those with money, who obviously expected favors in return, were limited to just a few politicians. When exposed, these “bought and paid for” politicians would eventually get voted out of office.

Today, “bought and paid for” is the norm in politics. Not only politicians, but entire political parties, at all levels of government, are “bought and paid for” by ultra-rich billionaires. Even to the point of having their special interest “think tanks” writing the bills for the politicians to submit and pass.

As in the old Medieval Feudal System, these overlords are at the top of the pyramid and demand allegiance from their minions below. Of course, at the bottom of the pyramid rests the peasants and laborers.

A prime example of this was in the news recently. When running for Governor in Louisiana, Bobby Jindal had the backing of Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). However, to get Norquist’s backing, Jindal had to vow allegiance to Norquist and his “no tax increase” policy. Governor Jindal has continually insisted that the Louisiana budget be balanced without tax increases, despite the prospect of devastating cuts to higher education and health care. Because of his “no tax increase” allegiance, Louisiana is now suffering. Gone are $800 million from the Medicaid Trust Fund for the Elderly and $450 million for providing development incentives, and the rainy day fund has dropped from $730 million to $460 million on his watch. As Louisiana’s legislature urgently tries to find a solution, the governor has threatened to veto any budget plan or tax bills that does not have his overlord’s, Grover Norquist, blessing.

So the economy and welfare of the State of Louisiana and it’s people are at the mercy of an anti-tax lobbying group, founded by Grover Norquist, a guy that was caught laundering money for Jack Abramofff and whom the New York Times has called “one of the Republican Party’s most influential policy strategists”. Of course, Norquist has his own overlords, the Koch brothers and other big industry giants.

We have sat on our hands while our democracy has slowly transitioned to an oligarchy. We have sat idly by while our basic civil/human rights are under attack and being relinquished, all in the name of security; our religious liberty has been taken over by in-your-face extremists that don’t accept other religions and demand politicians follow religious beliefs when passing laws; our political rights are being taken away from us by our politicians as they pass laws aimed at voter suppression; our fair and free elections are a thing of the past as our elections and representatives are bought and paid for by super rich billionaires; and our independent courts of law, including the Supreme Court, are totally politicized.

One of the primary goals of these ultra-rich overlords is the privatization of government services. In other words, they want to transition services that are currently provided by the government, funded by the people’s taxes, to services provided by for-profit corporations, which are owned by the overlords. The Center for Media and Democracy has called this privatization goal “a hostile takeover of our schools, roads, prisons, drinking water, and even government itself”.

An oligarchy is a form of government in which most of the political power effectively rests with a small segment of society, typically the people who have the most wealth, military strength, ruthlessness or political influence.

I would say this just about fits our current state of affairs, and we got here by giving up without a fight.

To understand how the Koch brothers have mastered this process, watch the following video on how the Koch brothers are attacking Social Security.

Bernie Sanders Exposes Koch Brothers War On Social Security

The anti-government Koch brothers are using their billion$ to wage war on Social Security. They want to destroy Social Security because it’s a huge Federal Government program that is successful. They want to privatize Social Security so they can cash in on it.

It’s hard to understand the big picture on the many ways the Koch brothers are attacking Social Security. The following video by Robert Greenwald and Brave New Foundation exposes their coordinated efforts for attacking Social Security.

The bad news is that Social Security is not their only target. They are anti-government and anti-regulations. All they want to do is make more money. More money so they can buy more politicians, at all levels of government.

This video does a great job of showing how they coordinate their attack on Social Security and other government programs.  This shows the power that the 1% has and how they use it to influence people. This is scary…

Name One Good Thing the Republicans Have Done in Six Years

Can anyone name one good thing the Republicans have done for this country during the past six years of Obama’s presidency?

Can anyone name one time that the Republicans have put extreme partisanship aside and worked with President Obama to do something positive for the country?

Can anyone name one time that the Republicans have not sided with the 1% over the needs of the 99%?

Robert RedfordI believe Robert Redford has answered my questions very succinctly.

Yet they are so openly proud of themselves for doing nothing except rewarding their rich overlords.
