10 Things To Know Before You Eat Your Next Chicken

We have all seen or heard already about all the bad things that are used to grow beef and the downside to eating it.  My family stopped eating red meat several years ago, with the exception of a What-a-Burger every now and then.  However, we are avid chicken eaters. This re-post of an article from Fusion.net will open your eyes to the new world of Factory Farms that feed Americans 9 billion chickens a year.

NO CHICKEN YOU EAT WAS EVER RAISED IN A CAGE.

What?! But you’ve seen “cage-free” plenty of times! Google it. The only chickens raised in cages in the U.S. are the ones that lay eggs. When you see the words “cage-free” on a label it doesn’t actually mean anything. Companies put it there, but really, none of the chickens were ever in a cage.

BUT MOST OF THEM ARE RAISED IN BARNS WITH 30,000 OF THEIR FEATHERED FRIENDS.

Craig’s barn is a sea of 30,000 birds filled with litter, feces and dusty feathers. When the chicks are fully grown, they have a space equivalent to a sheet of paper to walk around. The burning smell of ammonia is very common.

GMO – We Have the Right to Know What’s in Our Food

Americans are being force-fed GMO’s without their knowledge or consent. On average, Americans consume more than their weight in GMOs each year – 193 pounds of GMOs per person.

What is GMOAccording to the Grocery Manufacturing Association, an estimated 75-80% of processed food in the U.S. contains genetically engineered foods.

GMO CropsDo you want to know if the food you are buying, eating and feeding to your children has been genetically engineered? If so, you are not alone. According to a poll by Thompson Reuters, 93% of Americans believe genetically engineered foods should be labeled.

We have the right to knowThe right to know and the freedom to choose are at the core of our consumer rights as Americans. These GMO’s may contain toxic chemicals, allergens and other potential health risks that are not present in foods that are not genetically engineered.

The biotech food industry is making tremendous profits, but their business models are based on keeping Americans in the dark about what they’re really eating. By requiring food to be labeled if it contains genetically engineered foods we also give the consumer the ability to make their own decision.

Requiring labeling of genetically engineered foods and food ingredients will also prohibit genetically modified foods from being advertised as “natural.”

Genetic Engineered Food use Experimental Technology

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not require safety assessments of GMO foods and does not review all GMO products hitting the market. FDA guidelines are entirely voluntary and the patent holders themselves determine whether their products “warrant analytical or toxicological tests.”

Almost all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit. Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights.

GMOS are not safe

Over 60 countries require labels on GMOs, and many of these also have severe restrictions or bans against GMO food production or sale. We deserve the same level of protection and information as citizens in other nations around the world.

Countries with mandatory labeling include:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Russia
  • and all of the countries in the European Union.

Some of the countries with severe restrictions or bans against GMO food production or sale include:

  • Germany
  • Switzerland
  • Hungary
  • Ireland
  • Philippines
  • Australia
  • Peru
  • Japan.

The U.S. and Canada are two of the only developed nations in the world without GMO labeling. If GMO food is labeled or banned in all these countries around the world, WHY NOT AMERICA?

The results will only be known after millions of people have been exposed to (GMO foods) for decades…Any politician or scientist who tells you these products are safe is either very stupid or lying. The hazards of these foods are uncertain. In view of our enormous ignorance, the premature application of biotechnology is downright dangerous.

Haven’t we been down this road before? Remember Saccharin, statin drugs, trans-fats, and high-fructose corn syrup.

10 Problems with Genetically Modified FoodsDo you really want to eat GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS (FrankenFood) without having any long-term research done on how this is going to impact your body someday? After all, a GMO food is foreign and unknown to your body, which doesn’t know what to do with it, so it just stores it up.

Do you really want to eat GENETICALLY MODIFIED FOODS that have had it’s DNA  genetically altered to include TOXIC PESTICIDES, INSECTICIDES and AGENT ORANGE?

What can we do?

  • We can educate ourselves and others about GMO
  • We can help get laws passed to require labeling of GMO foods
  • We can boycott GMO food producers and resellers
  • We can buy/support more Organic food providers

If we will all do this, the production of organic foods will increase, the cost will come down, and the giant BioTech companies (Monsanto) that are taking control of our food supply will suffer because there is an educated and knowledgeable population that doesn’t want their damn GENETICALLY MODIFIED AND TOXIC FOODS.

GMO Corn = FrankenCorn

What could possibly go wrong eating unnatural, Genetically Modified corn with Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide poison genetically spliced into the corn?

Do you think it might kill off all the good bacteria and gut flora we have in our digestive system that helps us stay healthy???  Not to mention that our body is not going to recognize this “unnatural food”, so it won’t know what to do with it, so our body will store it away until it figures it out.  Yep, store that Roundup in our bodies. That sounds healthy!

Hmmmm… No thanks, I think I will pass on the FrankenCorn.

Monsanto’s GMO Bt Corn – Egyptian Study Proves It’s Dangerous

GMO fed to rats in EgyptIndependent Egyptian scientists have found that Monsanto’s GMO Bt toxic corn is NOT substantially equivalent to its NON GMO parent. While Monsanto claims there is no evidence of toxicity in their voluntary safety assessments, these independent scientists will tell you otherwise. By the 91st day of their studies, they found evidence of kidney, liver & intestinal toxicity, as well as male infertility. Time to face the music, Monsanto! BOYCOTT GMOs!

GMO’s Are Not Natural

GMOs are not NaturalGMOs ARE NOT NATURAL. Tell the FDA not to allow genetically engineered foods to be legally labeled “natural.” There is nothing natural about “food” that is patented by chemical companies and created using genes from unrelated species, a promoter virus, bacteria and antibiotic resistant markers, and is turned into an EPA registered pesticide. Successful lawsuits have been brought against Big Food for misleading consumers, marketing products as “natural” while containing GMOs. This is a slick trick by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) for their Big Food members so lawsuits can not be brought forth in the future. And if GMO salmon (aka Frankenfish) gets approved for the markets, it too will bear the “natural” label. Don’t be fooled. Don’t let it happen. Of course, the FDA is filled with ex-Monsanto executives and employees!!
