Top 10 Reasons to Vote Republican

This post may not sit well with some people, especially those not a attuned to living within the realms of reality. These 10 reasons could very well be 20, 30, maybe 50, but I think these 10 reasons pretty well sums it up.

Why would anyone vote Republican? Well, here are 10 reasons.

1. You are a bigot

It’s true that not all Republicans are bigots. But if you ARE a bigot, the Republican party will be much more your group than the Democratic party. Remember that there are lots of ways to be a bigot: You could be a racist, a homophobe, an Islamophobe, or lots of other things.

2. You like eating, drinking and breathing poison.

Many Republicans are calling for or voting for shrinking or eliminating agencies that protect us against poison. They seem to think that the corporations will do the right thing, without any pressure from the government. Uh huh. Read The Jungle.  Look at the way Monsanto is hiding facts about Round Up. Look at food safety and outbreaks of E. Coli.

Corporations exist to make money. They will do so any way they can. The government needs to stop them from doing so in ways that hurt people.

3. You think the rich don’t have enough money

The idea that giving more money to rich people (via tax breaks) will help poor people is nonsensical and has been shown wrong time and again in history. Huge tax breaks for the rich (a la George Bush) don’t work.

4. You don’t support our veterans

The Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran’s Association (IAVA) rates every member of congress on how well they support our veterans.  In the Senate, 9 people got A or A+: All were Democrats. 30 got D or F: 29 Republicans and one Democrat.

5. You like big deficits

Since the end of WW II the ratio of debt to GDP for the nation has gone down in 9 administrations (3 Republican and 6 Democratic) and up in 7 administrations (6 Republican and 1 Democratic).  The largest increases by this measure were GW Bush’s 2nd term; GHW Bush, and Reagan’s first term. The largest decreases were the three terms right after the end of WWII (Truman and Eisenhower). The last decrease under a Republican was in Eisenhower’s 2nd term

6. You don’t believe in free speech.

The American Civil Liberties Union is the premier defender of our civil liberties, including the right to free speech.  That’s free speech for EVERYONE; from Nazis to Marxists to Fred Phelps to anyone else. They rate politicians, including governors, senators and representatives.  12 people got a 100 rating: All were Democrats. 65 people got a score of less than 10: All were Republicans. Only 6 Democrats got a score under 50 (Joe Donnelly,  Michael Ross, Collin Peterson, Joseph Shuler, Mark Critz and David Boren). Only 2 Republicans got scores over 50 (Olympia Snowe and Mark Kirk)  Full list

7. You like big government

The Republicans like to claim they are against big government. It’s a lie. They only object when government helps people. But they are supporters of the Patriot Act; they want the government to say who you can marry; they want the government to forbid abortion; they want the government to be able to spy on you without restraint. Unfortunately, many Democrats agree with them on some of these, but to find opposition to these big government ideas, you have to look to the Democrats.

8. You want government to hurt people, but not help them

This is really just a summation of some other points.

9. You are greedy, short sighted and rich

You really have to be all three for this to work.

If you’re rich but not short-sighted, you know that, in the long run, when there is huge income inequality, it leads to things like stock market crashes and revolution, and everyone loses.  In a revolution, it is often the rich who lose most.

If you’re rich but not greedy, you recognize that helping others is a good thing, and that the government assuring that people have a safety net is a good thing as well.

10. You like torture

The Democrats don’t exactly shine here, but the Republicans are much worse.  It was, after all, Dick Cheney who bragged in his memoir about being a war criminal. It was Don Rumsfeld who opined that a problem in Abu Ghraib was that they weren’t torturing prisoners enough.  And it is mostly Democrats who have objected to torture.

Torture is wrong.  It’s also stupid. It doesn’t work. People who are tortured will say ANYTHING (true or not) that they thing their torturers want to hear.

Americans Have Given Up Without a Fight

I continue to be amazed at how Americans have become so apathetic with our political process and democracy in general. America was founded on a constitution that guarantees basic civil/human rights, religious liberty, political rights, independent courts of law, and fair and free elections. A true Government of the people, by the people, for the people. A democracy in which the ultimate power rests with the people and administered by people that are elected to represent them in the day-to-day business of the people’s government.

Our two political parties have always been opponents, but ultimately they would do what was best for the country and the people they represent. Now they are enemies, full of hatred for each other, with their own interests put ahead of the people’s needs. Their loyalty and focus has transitioned from the needs of the people to the demands of their overlords – their financiers.

In the past, those politicians that were “bought and paid for” by those with money, who obviously expected favors in return, were limited to just a few politicians. When exposed, these “bought and paid for” politicians would eventually get voted out of office.

Today, “bought and paid for” is the norm in politics. Not only politicians, but entire political parties, at all levels of government, are “bought and paid for” by ultra-rich billionaires. Even to the point of having their special interest “think tanks” writing the bills for the politicians to submit and pass.

As in the old Medieval Feudal System, these overlords are at the top of the pyramid and demand allegiance from their minions below. Of course, at the bottom of the pyramid rests the peasants and laborers.

A prime example of this was in the news recently. When running for Governor in Louisiana, Bobby Jindal had the backing of Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform (ATR). However, to get Norquist’s backing, Jindal had to vow allegiance to Norquist and his “no tax increase” policy. Governor Jindal has continually insisted that the Louisiana budget be balanced without tax increases, despite the prospect of devastating cuts to higher education and health care. Because of his “no tax increase” allegiance, Louisiana is now suffering. Gone are $800 million from the Medicaid Trust Fund for the Elderly and $450 million for providing development incentives, and the rainy day fund has dropped from $730 million to $460 million on his watch. As Louisiana’s legislature urgently tries to find a solution, the governor has threatened to veto any budget plan or tax bills that does not have his overlord’s, Grover Norquist, blessing.

So the economy and welfare of the State of Louisiana and it’s people are at the mercy of an anti-tax lobbying group, founded by Grover Norquist, a guy that was caught laundering money for Jack Abramofff and whom the New York Times has called “one of the Republican Party’s most influential policy strategists”. Of course, Norquist has his own overlords, the Koch brothers and other big industry giants.

We have sat on our hands while our democracy has slowly transitioned to an oligarchy. We have sat idly by while our basic civil/human rights are under attack and being relinquished, all in the name of security; our religious liberty has been taken over by in-your-face extremists that don’t accept other religions and demand politicians follow religious beliefs when passing laws; our political rights are being taken away from us by our politicians as they pass laws aimed at voter suppression; our fair and free elections are a thing of the past as our elections and representatives are bought and paid for by super rich billionaires; and our independent courts of law, including the Supreme Court, are totally politicized.

One of the primary goals of these ultra-rich overlords is the privatization of government services. In other words, they want to transition services that are currently provided by the government, funded by the people’s taxes, to services provided by for-profit corporations, which are owned by the overlords. The Center for Media and Democracy has called this privatization goal “a hostile takeover of our schools, roads, prisons, drinking water, and even government itself”.

An oligarchy is a form of government in which most of the political power effectively rests with a small segment of society, typically the people who have the most wealth, military strength, ruthlessness or political influence.

I would say this just about fits our current state of affairs, and we got here by giving up without a fight.

koch family and stalin

To understand how the Koch brothers have mastered this process, watch the following video on how the Koch brothers are attacking Social Security.

Bernie Sanders Exposes Koch Brothers War On Social Security

The anti-government Koch brothers are using their billion$ to wage war on Social Security. They want to destroy Social Security because it’s a huge Federal Government program that is successful. They want to privatize Social Security so they can cash in on it.

It’s hard to understand the big picture on the many ways the Koch brothers are attacking Social Security. The following video by Robert Greenwald and Brave New Foundation exposes their coordinated efforts for attacking Social Security.

The bad news is that Social Security is not their only target. They are anti-government and anti-regulations. All they want to do is make more money. More money so they can buy more politicians, at all levels of government.

This video does a great job of showing how they coordinate their attack on Social Security and other government programs.  This shows the power that the 1% has and how they use it to influence people. This is scary…

Name One Good Thing the Republicans Have Done in Six Years

Can anyone name one good thing the Republicans have done for this country during the past six years of Obama’s presidency?

Can anyone name one time that the Republicans have put extreme partisanship aside and worked with President Obama to do something positive for the country?

Can anyone name one time that the Republicans have not sided with the 1% over the needs of the 99%?

Robert RedfordI believe Robert Redford has answered my questions very succinctly.

Yet they are so openly proud of themselves for doing nothing except rewarding their rich overlords.

Another Bush President – Is America Really That Stupid

This is a nightmare in the making.

Of course the statement above is inaccurate considering Dubya was Selected, not Elected, the first time.

We all sat back and watched the fiasco in Florida that ultimately led to him being selected as President in 2000. While all the public attention was focused on hanging chads, butterfly ballots and a skewed recount, the root of the problem was overlooked. The state of Florida purged over 90,000 people from their list of eligible voters under the guise that they were felons. In fact, almost none of the disenfranchised voters were felons…but almost all were blacks or democrats. Remember, George Bush only won Florida by 537 votes.  Of course, Jeb Bush’s Secretary of State Katherine Harris, also co-chair of Bush’s presidential campaign, was in charge of Florida’s vote count.  After all, Jeb Bush did promise his brother he was going to deliver Florida.

Is America really that stupid? Yes.

If we can elect George W. Bush to a second term after everything he did, or didn’t do, then yes we are stupid enough to do it again.

New Republican Congress – Same Old Republican Agenda

Congress is now under total Republican control. It has been eight years since the last time this happened, and Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and Speaker of the House John Boehner are ready to lead their new Republican majority Congress to new heights.

They can now get serious about passing legislation that benefits everyone, except the American people. Speaker of the House John Boehner has said that Republicans should be proud of “how many laws benefiting the people we eliminated.” He said Republicans just “don’t do all that nonsense” of passing laws for the people. “Unpopular? Yes. Why? Because we’re fighting for what we believe in.”

If we look at the first 200 bills proposed by the new Republican Congress, we know what they believe in:

  • Repealing ObamaCare
  • Deregulating everything
  • Stopping immigration
  • Cutting government spending via austerity
  • Holding the debt ceiling hostage
  • Being against anything the President is for
  • Rewarding their wealthy supporters.

There were no jobs bills; no economic bills; and definitely no environmental bills proposed. Sound familiar? Same old obsession with President Obama, deficits, debt, and women’s bodies. No consideration for the needs of the common, hard-working, American people.

In all fairness, the Republicans are trying to pass one “major” jobs bill; the Keystone XL oil pipeline. It is estimated that this “major” jobs bill will generate approximately fifty (50) long-term jobs. Of course the real beneficiaries of this bill are the Koch brothers and TransCanada, not the American people.

We should not be surprised. The Republicans are keeping their promises to their wealthy and powerful supporters. They will continue to reward the rich (1%) and the big corporations by taking away from the American people (99%).

Another example: By passing a rule banning the transfer of funds within the Social Security Trust, they are supporting the Koch brothers and Wall Street’s quest to gain access to American’s retirement accounts. Passing this rule will help create a Social Security crisis that could lead to privatizing Social Security.

By their actions during the first week in control of Congress, there is no doubt their priorities are to support their wealthy supporters and keep their promises to them. All at the expense of the common, hard-working, American people. Shameful.

Don’t Worry…The Adults are in Charge Again

Adults in Charge AgainNo sir, you don’t have to worry anymore because the adults are now in charge. We know what you want. We know what is good for the country.

  • We’ll protect you from all those liberal, socialist-thinking ideas
  • We’ll repeal ObamaCare – we won’t force affordable insurance and health care on you
  • We’ll reform Social Security – you should be able to save for retirement on your own
  • We’ll reform Medicare – why should we have to pay for health care for all those old people
  • We’ll stop all this ridiculous climate change activity – it’s our world and it will last forever
  • We’ll stop all these alternative energy initiatives – OIL is all we need (drill baby drill)
  • We’ll remove all those pesky safety regulations that are holding back our big businesses
  • We’ll stop all this talk about immigration reform – we just need to get rid of all these foreigners
  • We’ll stop all this minimum-wage discussion – our big businesses need cheap labor to stay profitable

This is just for starters. We will continue to dismantle all those other bad things the Democrats did while they were in charge. If the President tries to stop us from doing our job, we will teach him a lesson and ”shut down the government.”

We know this is what you want because you voted us back in power.

We know what’s good for the country because our financial supporters told us.

So, don’t worry, we are going to take care of you.
